Students who successfully complete the 12-hour PST course will satisfy the Personal Survival Techniques training and competency requirements of STCW Code Section A-VI/1 and 46 CFR 11.302(a)(1) and CFR 12.602(d)(1).
This course provides instruction and assessment on an emphasis on the trainee gaining the practical knowledge,
understanding and proficiency in personal survival techniques.
This course of instruction is designed to provide to the student a training experience that combines formal classroom instruction with hands-on practical application and demonstration. This training course will impress upon them the importance of identifying and using all available assets to ensure personal and crew safety in the event of a ship abandonment. Each student who successfully completes this course will be able to:
Don and use an immersion suit
Safely jump from a height into the water
Right an inverted life-raft while wearing a lifejacket
Swim while wearing a lifejacket; and keep afloat without a lifejacket for 60 seconds
Survive at sea in the event of ship abandonment
