OS PREPARATORY CLASS.

The Ordinary Seaman Preb. course is the first step for anyone pursuing a career at sea . This course provides the fundamental seamanship knowledge and hands-on skills needed to work safely and effectively on-board commercial vessels. It prepares seafarers to support deck operations, follow commands from licensed officers, and begin building sea service experience required for advancement to higher ratings such as Able Seaman (AB).

The course covers a wide range of topics including basic seamanship skills (knots, splicing, line handling, and rigging), rules of the road and navigation basics, shipboard safety and emergency procedures, cargo handling and stowage principles, deck maintenance and painting, and an introduction to U.S. Coast Guard regulations and STCW requirements. Students also learn about watch standing duties, personal protective equipment (PPE), and the importance of teamwork and discipline at sea.

By completing the Ordinary Seaman course, mariners gain the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills necessary to start their maritime career, laying the foundation for professional growth and advancement within the merchant marine industry.
