NOTE: THIS IS AN ADVANCE COURSE. This 40-hour course of instruction is designed to provide the Able Seaman with training that combines formal classroom instruction with hands-on performance and demonstrations. This advanced class is tailored for individuals currently serving as an Ordinary Seaman. If you haven't yet accumulated sea time, we're here to support you. Enroll in our Ordinary Seaman course to build your foundation, and we'll guide you every step of the way.

This course provides training for officers and ratings. It comprises a basic training program appropriate to their duties, including oil and chemical tanker safety, fire safety measures and systems, pollution prevention, operational practice, and obligations under applicable laws and regulations.

This 16-hour course was developed to meet the STCW training requirements for the Ship Security Officer. Students need to have completed the VPDSD course.
